How we got started

Our owner, Derek Martin, was a college kid moving on the side for extra money. He loved the work, diffusing stressful times in people's lives with both courtesy and care. He liked the challenge of packing a truck efficiently and the satisfaction of a job done right.

What he didn't like were the serious shortcomings he saw in the moving industry: untrained staff carelessly packing people's prized possessions, furniture dismantled with no clear plan for putting it back together, and people hired off the street with no care for the customer experience.

He saw bait-and-switch tactics, where companies would offer one price and then tack on extra costs at the end. He saw crews that showed up late, or just didn't show. Utah's Moving and Storage was born to solve these problems.
